A New Home for Engel & Völkers by Steffi Kammerer | 23rd November, 2018 | Personalities

E&V’s 40th anniversary saw the completion of its new corporate HQ designed by Richard Meier. The grand opening was attended by guests from all around the world.

The well-wishers entered the light and airy building in Hamburg’s harbor area via the red carpet. Friends of the company attended the event, among them actor Joseph Fiennes, singer Vicky Leandros and the Marqués and Marquesa de Serdañola from Spain. Many of the guests have been associated with E&V and its founder Christian Völkers for decades. In the two-story atrium, stunningly set and decorated tables complete with white tablecloths, white roses and lighted candles awaited the invitees. The construction of the new corporate HQ, which boasts views of the Elbe River and the Elbphilharmonie concert hall, started three years ago. Renowned U.S. architect Richard Meier had won the contract in an international competition over rival designs from Zaha Hadid and Norman Foster. In part, this was due to Meier’s use of white surfaces, a feature of his unmistakable style. After all, white – along with red and black – dominates the Engel & Völkers brand image. During the three-course dinner, Christian Völkers took his guests on a trip through E&V’s company history – from a small broker’s office to one of the world’s leading real estate companies.
